Curly Girl Method - Finger Detangling

So, what has been going on with this head of mine? I have been experimenting with a lot of different ways to tame this bush baby. I’ve been researching the curly girl method to see if it’s something I can deal with. The one technique I thought there was no way I could do was the Finger Detangling. I have used a comb to detangle my hair since I can remember. The thought of not using one literally freaked me out. I just couldn’t wrap my brain around me being able to finger detangle my entire head. My hair is super super thick so I just knew it wouldn’t work but gave it a try.

I washed my hair and decided to try this new method. I only co-washed with Tresemme Natural’s conditioner and I used Shea Moisture’s Deep Treamtent Masque for about 2 hours. Normally I deep condition all weekend but I didn’t have that type of time. After I washed the conditioner out I looked at myself in the mirror and said a silent prayer. I put some of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Taliah Waajid’s The Great Detangler (Wonder if that’s cheating) and rubbed it through my hair and started the process……
HORRIBLE…

There were moments when I wanted to grab the comb and give up. Moments where I thought a tear would fall out of my eye. There were also moments where I felt I would just cut it all off and never think about any of these moments again. It was so hard to do even when I tried to do it by small sections. It normally takes me about 30 mins to detangle with a wide tooth comb and finger detangling was about 2 hours. I was so careful and kept going over it because I didn’t want to miss anything and have my hair become matted.

After taking two wine breaks (Praise YellowTail) I finished my hair and decided to twist it after that using BeeMine Curly Butter.

Once the Twists were complete I wrapped my hair up and went to bed.
The next day I took the twists down and was pleasantly surprised. My hair was super soft, super DETANGLED, and my twists looked great. My hair looked more moisturized and just felt different.  I mean it was literally one of the best twist outs I think I’ve had in a while.

I didn’t use any different products than I normally do so the only thing I can contribute it to was my Finger Detangling. Since going through this experience I have done it for a second time and it was definitely an easier process than the first lol.
