Sally's Beauty Supply Being Sued!

Unfortunately that is what's buzzing !!!

Sally's Beauty Supply is being sued by the very popular brand Mixed Chicks! Mixed Chicks sells haircare products targeted towards women with curly hair although their products work well with other hair textures as well. Sally's is very known for switching up a label on a product and creating their own CHEAPER version of that product. I don't know if the ingredients are all the same but they definitely make the bottles close to the more expensive brands so buyers can compare. Lets be honest if you see two things side by side that favor eachother in look and possibly ingredients you'll definitley go for the cheaper one. I know when I first saw it I instantly thought of the Mixed chicks brand so there is no doubt in my mind that they had no intentions of dubb'n their product and THEN the icing on the cake is that their product is named Mixed Silk !! LOL... Well um Okay! Below is a sample of information I took from Essence.com

This just in: one of the most beloved haircare lines for naturally curly women and kids, Mixed Chicks, just filed suit against Sally Beauty Supply. The reason? Mixed Chicks is claiming that the mega beauty chain's new hair line, Mixed Silk, is infringing on the their trademark. They're also alleging that Sally Beauty Supply is using the Mixed Chicks logo on its website to direct consumers to their infringing products...

Mixed Chicks Co-Founder Kim Etheredge has this to say: "We've worked hard to build the reputation of the Mixed Chicks product as one of high quality. We want our clients to know that the Mixed Silk products have no connection with our products, and Mixed Chicks has not endorsed or authorized them." We're fans of both Mixed Chicks and Sally Beauty Supply, and hope that they reach an agreement soon!

Below you can clearly see the comparison of the products! I know everyone is just trying to keep their businesses above float but it's room for everyone! I hope everything works out for both companies. Although I've never used either or product lol i'm sure they're great!

 

Shea Moisture - Deep Treatment Masque

So I reviewed the other Shea Moisture Products that I've used in another post and you can check that out by clicking the link -->> Review

The only one I hadn't used that I purchased was the Deep Treatmeant Masque, Well I finally gave it a whirl this weekend and O.M.G! This stuff is so amazing I have no words. I started by shampooing my hair with Suave's Almond n' Shea Butter Shampoo (Review on that soon) and then I used V05's Clarifying conditioner. Once I washed that out I made sure my hair was absolutely clean and clear of any residue. I started to apply the Deep Treatment Masque onto my hair in sections because I always miss sections of my hair while applying conditioners for some reason so I have to apply in sections. You really don't need a lot of this because it does spread really well onto your hair. Once my hair was full of the Masque I put on a plastic cap at 5pm Saturday evening................. 

 

Sunday Night at 9:30pm I just woke up from a nap and realized I had to wash this stuff out. I took the cap off and washed it out with warm/cool water and I just kept saying OMG..OMG..OH EM GHEE !! My hair felt so great and so well moisturized I couldn't believe it. For some reason I thought it might be little rough on my hair but it totally wasn't. This will definitely be my STAPLE deep conditioner. Sorry Organic Root Stimulator Deep Condit but THIS stuff is great and the ingredients are wonderful! I have seen mixed reviews for this product for a while and that's what kept me from purchasing it but i'm very glad that I was brave enough to try it on my own! Walgreens is Having a BOGO sale on all Shea Moisture Products until April 2nd so If you've never tried it before now would be the time :)

This is what my nails looked like last week! I can say that I am very impressed with the new brand urban outfitters has for their nail polish!...When I walked in it said new and improved and it's good! It put this polish on Saturday and it didn't start chipping until Friday and I was washing dishes and  co washing my hair of course! I'll probably go pick up the other colors (on sale of course) Lol.

I have to say that i LOVE LOVE LOVE The Queen Latifah line by Cover Girl! I've been searching for a good concealer that wouldn't break my pockets and the only one I found for my skin tone was the QL concealer but that's not what this is about.

Normally all I wear is LIP GLOSS !! if it's not a gloss, it's a shimmer lip plumper which is basically lip gloss right? I don't know why i've strayed away from lipsticks but I have. I decided to give it a try being as though spring is coming up I wanted to experiment with COLOR! I was very very shocked to see how many colors were in her selection because I do think that sometimes being a woman of color we stray from bright colors and stick to the neutrals. So I picked up Q-455 Powderpuff Pink and I actually REALLY love it! I'll include pics below! Let me know what you think.

OPI Extends Shatter Line!

*Holding my breath* are these NOT the sexiest colors you've ever seen in your entire life! No really be honest? So anyway Round of Applause for my BF Taryn who hit me up this morning telling me that OPI is extending their shatter line even past the ones out now including the Silver Shatter!..Which by the way I don't think i'll be purchasing. I barely use Silver Nail polish unless it's Christmas so a silver shatter is not my cup of tea BUT THESE COLORS !!! I couldn't even breathe when I pulled up the link for these! Ugh just takes my breath away! *sniffs the colors* Dreamy!

CG Lash Blast, Luxe or Fusion?

I Got, GOT !!! Hmmph

 

Okay !! So I've had the original Lash Blast which comes in an orange tube and I loved it but found it to be a tad bit clumpy and annoying!

So then comes out Lash Blast Luxe Fell in LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!! I was like *cues music* THIS RIGHT HEREEEEE IS MYYYYYY SH______! .. So anyways Long story short if any of you purchase Mascara you know it can be a tad bit pricey possibly the cheapest you can find any of these is 7.99 but no higher than 10.99.  I always try to get the ultimate darkest color because I love the way it looks on me and I was satisfied with this 5 out of 5!

 

So Then I started eyeing the FUSION when it came out and the hype was so amazing but the price kept holding me back. Well Finally I decided to purchase it against my budgeting wishes and #FAIL ... Not only is it wack but it seems like I can barely see anything when I put my mascara on. Did I get a bad one? Because with the Lash Blast Luxe a little goes a longgggggggggggggggg WAY! two strokes and you're done and hot! ... But the FUSION not so much I find myself going over it with the Maybeline Vibrating mascara twice !! W..T..!!! If i wanted to use two mascara's I wouldn't of spent 8.99 on ONE! Anyway I wanted to vent my dissapointment in CoverGirl's Fusion!

So if you've used Fusion before let me know if I really just got a bad one or what because i'm extra Salty!

Some of the colors in the 100 palette aren't as rich but it could be a match of my skin color with those swatches also. Braid Out Results!

First Braid Out!!!

So this is the results to my first braid out! I will list the products that I used below (click on the link and it will take you to the product). I was very pleased with the results because I loved how big and fluffy my hair came out. If you know me then you know i LOVE BIG HAIR! It started to shrink up during the day but that's fine and expected of course. Right now i'm sitting here with a couple of braids in my hair. I did them kind of small the first night but definitely not now so we will see how it turns out tomorrow.

First Blow Out ;)

You need to pick your afro daddy, Because it's flat on one side - Erykah Badu

So at the spur of the moment I decided I would blow out my hair to achieve a braid out w/o getting my curls in the way. I wanted the braid out to be big and fluffy! If you're familiar with the Marley extensions I wanted it to look like that! just big full and all over the place! My hair was already freshly washed so all I did to maintain moisture was condition with my Suave Almond Shea Butter conditioner and Detangle with Taliah Waajid's Great Detangler (IT'S THE BUSINESS, REVIEW COMING SOON)... After detangling I sprayed CHI's 44 Iron Guard which made my hair feel horrible and stiff. I then blow dried anyway but added Shea Moisture's Curl enhacning smoothie to make it soft again. I parted my hair into 6 FREAKING sections! And luckily I had eaten a meal before doing all of this because it was HOT in that bathroom and I could have fainted. Anyway here are the results below! My hair was so big and fluffy I loved it !!! I may be doing this at least every 4 months or so just because I loved how my puff looked with it blown out too!

I picked up two products yesterday in Target when I was searching for a spring jacket because FYI Its going to be in the 70s Friday and that pea coat is NOT leaving the house! Lol. Anyway I love Shea moisture's products. So far I have tried 3 out of 4 of the products that I own but they have many other options. Their haircare and body wash can be purchased @ Target and now they have also expanded to Walgreens! ALL of their products are all natural! REVIEW: THIS Product does not enhance or give you curls it is solely a moisturizer! So reading the back of this I did'nt know you could use it as a deep conditioner but I definitely wouldn't try. For my hair this product is completely for moisture! When I first purchased it I do have to say i didn't like it. I used it on damp hair and it took so long to dry I was over it Because I was doing a wash and go and I clearly couldn't just GO with product in my hair. It did not dissolve like the CANTU Leave in conditioner. But when I revisited the product on dry hair I was AMAZED! It makes my hair feel so soft and manageable it's not even funny! I use it on my twists so my hair doesn't become dry and brittle feeling. It feels my hair shiney all day and just great I love this product! It's a 12oz so you shouldn't really go through it that easy. I bought my first one back in June of 2010 and I'm just now almost running out in March 2011 so that's why I decided to just purchase a new one right now. So 5 out of 5! If you do try it as a deep conditioner let me know how that works out.

 

Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo $9.99

Purpose: For Dry Damaged Hair, to heal, grow & Strenghthen.

Instructions: Massage into hair and rinse.

REVIEW: This shampoo is great! I do wish that it came in a bigger bottle because if you can tell in the picture it's on it's last leg and i've been tryign to hold onto it by using other shampoo's in the mean time. I love the way it makes my hair feel while shampooing. I don't shampoo my hair often, possibly twice a month but I do co wash 3 times a week. Although it doesn't state that it is a clarifying shampoo it makes my hair feel like it has gotten everything off of it and ready for something new. it doesn't leave my hair feeling stripped or anything! Did it Heal, Grow and Strenghten? Who knows I only used it a couple of times but it did something! I love it!

Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist $9.99

Purpose: Imparts a high-gloss shine, while providing hold and hydration to hair.

Instructions: Spray liberally through towel-dried hair from roots to ends and use a wide-tooth comb to distribute evenly. Style as desired. May be used to refreshen hair for moisture.

Ingredients: Contains de-ionized water, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) oil*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter)*, silk protein, essential oil blend, Melia Azadirachta (Neem) seed oil, algae extract, Hyssopus Officinalis extract, Salvia Officinalis (sage) leaf and Equisetum Arvense extract, Lonicera Caprifolium (honeysuckle) flower and Lonicera Japonica (Japanese honeysuckle) flower extract and Tocopherol (vitamin E). *Denotes certified organic ingredients.

REVIEW: Another Win for me! Normally what I do is just spray this on my hair right before I leave the house. Spray maybe 3 times and then shake my hair and fluff it and i'm out. It gives my hair a soft shine so it doesn't look as though my hair is super oily or greasy for that matter. It gives just enough so it won't be dry and it holds in moisture! I would purchase this again!

Purpose: This rich treatment deeply moisturizes and repairs hair, while providing a protective barrier for the hair from heat and styling aids

Instructions: After shampooing, massage into wet hair and leave on for 5-45 minutes, add a plastic cap and moderate heat for deep penetration

Satin Pillowcase FINALLY!

So I went to Sally's BeautySupply ONCE AGAIN looking for the Eco Styler Argan Oil and still no LUCK! No Tangle Teezer either! Well I decided to just browse instead and ended up finding the satin pillowcase by the bonnets. For some reason I never really thought about it being there. My only thoughts were that I'd have to buy one from target or walmart some place and end up spending so much because it would be a set! Well this was $8.99 and only one comes in the pack! (Not that I wanted to pay that either but hey). Anyway I literally just took it out and put it on my pillow and it fits. It's a standard sized pillowcase and it has a Zipper on the end so you don't have to worry about your pillowcase falling off or anything like that! My only concern is getting hot at night ??? Lol I hope I don't start sweating because of the fabric.

For those of you that may not know the satin pillowcase benefits:

• Hair bonnets are totally SMASHING my hair and i've gotten up to size XXXL in a hair bonnet and it's still not big enough so this satin bonnet will allow me the benefits of not smashing my hair at night.
• Breakage! It's said that the satin pillowcase eliminates hair breakage and split ends. Cotton and other fabrics are known to tug and stick to the hair, therefore if you are moving a lot at night your hair is possibly snapping in your sleep *CUE SCARY SCREAM*
• Satin pillowcase are also known to help retain moisture in the hair overnight which is the reason why we use satin or silk bonnets/scarfs. Again cotton and other fabrics will steal the moisture causing your hair to look dry and angry with you the next morning.

 

P.S. If you have a significant other you may want to give them a heads up! "This is my pillowcase so I don't want to see you laying your head on it for comfort nor do I want to see any Major Drooling"  ha :) That should work.

DIRECTIONS: Shampoo and towel dry. Apply cream to hair and scalp. Leave on for 3 to 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water. For extra conditioning of overly dry or damaged hair, repeat the process. Style as usual.

REVIEW: This stuff is GREAT!  I washed my hair with Dr. Bronner's hemp soap as a shampoo and then I put this on my hair. Once I got it on real good I then put on a shower cap and went to sleep. 8am the next morning or 9am (it's daylight savings i'm confused) LOL.  Anyway I washed it out and my hair feels great! No tangles no knots I mean i can seriously just run my fingers through my hair. I am just so surprised at how great it works and this was like $3.99 !!! WHAT GIVES? I didn't really smell it but that just goes to show it probably didn't have a strong smell because i'm very sensitive to that. The consistency wasn't thick but when I put it on my hair, my hair felt really heavy which is weird! I will definitely be making this a staple as a deep conditioner for me and detangler I love it!

 

Hollywood Beauty Smoothing Hair Creme enriched with Keratin & Argan Oil with Morocco

PURPOSE: Provides your hair with silkiness, enhanced shine while helping to eliminate frizz. (My enemy)

DIRECTIONS: Apply a small amount to towel dry hair, and work evenly throughout. Leave in and proceed to styling.

INGREDIENTS: Water, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone, PEG-100 Stearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Kertain, Cetrimonium Chloride, Polyquaternium-7, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Triethanolamine, Fragrance (parfum), Carbomer, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ribes Migrum (Black Currant) Fruit Extract, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, FDC Yellow.

REVIEW: First off this smells SO good Like I don't even know what type of smell it is but it's just good stuff! I kept putting my nose to the pump and smelling it like a weirdo LOL. But after I washed out the Aloe Vera above I put some EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) in my hair and then I used some of this stuff. It said to put a small amount in your hands and place it in your hair. I have to say it felt great putting it on. It wasn't too thick or too thin it was just right. It doesn't real add that much shine to your hair but it does make it feel really smooth. Of course I just put it on like not even 30-40 mins ago so i'll have to update this post at the end of the day to let you guys know what the end result was!! P.S. I love the fact that it has a pump and it's not a bottle or jar!

Target and BSS Haul !

Haul Time !!!!!

So yeah I decided after work I was going to hit up target at the mall. Normally I don't go to this one but I figured since I wanted to go to marshalls too I'd hit up target and bam! get it both done WELL unfortunately I didn't see anything in Marshall's I wanted. I was surpriseddddddd I don't know if it was just THAT Marshall's that was slipp'n on their game or what but all I ended up buying was a strainer LOL.. Yes a strainger for 1.99

So I go back inside the Mall and I almost past the beauty supply store and I saw some Jane Carter in the window so I was like what...what..Hold up! So I went in and took FOREVER making sure I scanned every isle closely. I see alot of BSS are starting to sell Natural hair care which is great! ...I can't wait until they really expand on stuff like Carol's Daughter or the Bee Mine or Curls!... Then I went to TARGET (my favorite place to guarantee purchases from me) and picked up the rest of the products below. I'll definitely list each product seperately and their ingredients and give a proper review when I get a chance !!!

Beauty Supply Store

Taliah Waajid - The Great Detangler -  $6.99

PURPOSE: Softens hair on contact, Leave-in conditioner, Light formula and No Build up.

DIRECTIONS: Use on wet or dry hair. Seperate a section of hair. Apply a liberal amount of hair detangler. Use fingers to work the product through the hair to loosen the tangles. Use a medium to large tooth comb. start at the ends of hair. Comb through up to the scalpe and through tangles. Style as desired.

REVIEW: I've used this before and it's AMAZING! It is always stocked in my cabinet ready for use. It feels my hair feeling WELL moisturized and smooth. The slip is really thick and a little goes a long way so you don't need a lot really. I will always go to this conditioner with no problem what so ever! I can honestly say it's one the best on the cheaper side of things. The smell is great too!

Good Ol' Nail Polish Haul's !!This makes me smile every single time! So I purchased four different Nail Polishe's today in different locations I might add. I went to claire's because I wanted some cute little earrings and a bracelet and found these two polishes, BUY ONE GET ONE FREE (who's lucky day was it???). Now DON'T SLEEP on Claire's nail polish. I was nervous the first time I bought it but the quality is real decent in my eyes. I had to get the sand art just because it looks cool and says DO NOT SHAKE at the top! Curiousty always kills me. The blue is a color i've been looking for, for a while so I purchased that. Then I ended up at CVS and saw that they now have the OPI Matte finish Polishes! I've never tried the Matte so it'll be my first time and of course it will be TONIGHT! My plan is to use the shatter over the Matte depending on how it comes out! I'm dying to get my hands on the Grey China Glaze Crackle! but good things come to those who wait! Anyway just wanted to share my joy! i'll come back with a review tomorrow after I've used them.

So Normally I use the ORS Deep Replenshing Pak's for my deep conditioner. It smells like lemon and it gets the Job done leaving my hair moisturized and feeling great. Well this time around I decided hmmm I wonder if the Hair Mayo is just as good so I bought it. $10 bucks (I WAS TRIPPEN) but It's a pretty big jar so can't be that mad 16oz. Again as all deep conditioners it says leave in for 5 mins and I leave it in much longer. The results? I don't know i'm really on the fence It didn't leave my hair as great as the Replenshing Pak's do but it wasn't horrible. I saw reviews where people said the older version of this was better than what it is now. I'm going to give it a try again and update my review but for right now i'm just SO/SO !!!

Pantene Curly Series & Medium-Thick Deep Conditioner REVIEW

Curly Hair Series Treatment - Deep Moisturizing

So I haven't really ever been a fan of Pantene Because I call myself just feeling like there shouldn't be a brown bottle series. I loved their products before the relaxed and natural line came out but I was slightly turned off by the NEWNESS! Well now they have come out with something I couldn't resist trying. Unfortunately I didn't feel the need to try the entire line because some of that stuff I don't use on my hair anyway like the mousse and the gel, so I was like eh nevermind. I did however have to pick up the conditioner. So my thoughts ?? AMAZINGGGGGGGGG !!! I mean when I say this stuff is GOOD! it is G.O.O.D!!! Of course the instructions say to leave on for about 5 minutes but yeah right I totally kept it on for probably 30 or more while doing something else in the house. It is so GREAT! Like I was so impressed I can't even find the words. It will definitely be a staple of mine! The only downfall is the jar because I wish it did come in a bigger size but i'm just being greedy! So curly or not you will not be let down! this Deep Moisturzing conditioner [DESPITE THE CONES INCLUDED] is the Sugar.Honey.Iced.Tea for REAL !

Medium-Thick Hair Solutions Treatment - Intensive Restoration Treatment

NOW On it's sister product the Medium-Thick Intensive Restoration Treatment... I don't know why but i'm not a fan. It didn't leave my hair feeling the way the Curly hair series did. It was okay but nothing to like fall all over and praise about. So i'd use it if I ran out of all my other conditioners but I wouldn't go to it first.

Mane n' Tail Detangler REVIEW

So I did use the mane and tail detangler ...annnnnnnnnnnd...*cue scary music* ... I didn't like it..Okay wait let me back up when I started spraying it on my freshly washed hair It was great! It cut my detangling in half..HONESTLY it did!! I was rushing because I wanted to see Celeb Apprentice..Basketball Wives Finale and something else that was on so I was rushing. I had very very Minimum shedding and I was surprised because I hadn't detangled since BEFORE I put in the mini twists so I was entirely nervous. Long story short not too much shedding and very easy and fast detangling. NOW the scary part! The FEEL of it !! YUCK. My hairrrrrrrrrrr felt so stripped and gross even after i put in my conditioner TWICE it still felt so brittle and stripped. I figured okay well maybe by tomorrow it will feel better i'll let it rest. So the next morning YUCK i had to suffer through work all day long with rough brittle hair I was so nervous that people would notice and be like EWE what did she do! ... So I don't know it's a catch 22 !! I loved it but then I hated it !!! What to doooo ??? Sigh so next weekend i'll be trying the Lustra Silk Aloe Vera detangler and see if that works for me. I honestly paid NO attention to the ingredients I saw flower extract and was like "OH CUTE" lol..shame on ME !!

Mini Twists and Twist Out

Yeah so I tried mini twists! YES I tried it! What Happened was I had this cute idea of doing like twists on the sides going up then a poof in the front anddddddd after 5 mins of trying it i was like you know what i'm OVER IT!!!!!!!!! So I was like eh i'll try mini twists! It took about 8 hours give or take a little of me watching an Intervention Marathon freaking myself out LOL. i wore them for about a week and a half. I psyched myself into thinking that I would wear them for a month. HARDY HAR FREAKING HAR! after the first week i was READY for a change! The twist out came out really cute and fluffy and I wore that for like 3 days. To do the mini twists I used Garnier Fructis FiberGum/Shea Moisture curl enhancing Smoothie/Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey! Pics Below are me installing the twists...and how I wore them and then the take down!
